David Rooks
Founder and Developer
David Rooks is the founder and developer of Odd Syntax Studios, an independent software company focused on AI-driven mobile applications. After a successful 20-year career in Enterprise IT managing complex infrastructure, backup systems, and disaster recovery, David pivoted to AI-assisted mobile development. His focus is on leveraging modern workflows to build and design practical, cross-platform tools that solve real-world problems.
His flagship project, CatchYak AI, bridges his technical engineering background with his passion for kayak fishing. Built utilizing React Native, the app delivers smart routing, safety indexing, and environmental analysis directly to anglers. Based in Ohio, David splits his time between designing intuitive app experiences, coding new features, and field-testing them out on the water.
The company
Odd Syntax Studios LLC is a limited liability company organized in the State of Ohio. We publish our apps under that name on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Our first app is CatchYak AI, a fishing guide built for kayaks. Next is a scheduling tool for church production and worship teams.
